PART TWO THE NETHERLANDS
I V THE CANALS OF DELFT ____________________
What is it about reflections? Such an Alice In Wonderland feeling Surely one can just step in and see what's there in the places that are obscured by reality It's all so breathtakingly beautiful ____________________
I wonder where the arched canal on the left of the main canal goes Does it go right under the street? Maybe it's a canal along the side of that other street There is simply no end to the wonder at the engineering that makes these small lowland towns possible I am constantly in awe The little bridge by the church is charming; Next the duck, floating along in water that touches a wall on the left, but on the right reaches right up to the front doors and windows. ____________________
Just one more photo of Delft, until one's eye comes upon the derriere on the railing (I don't know the correct word in Dutch for that part of the anatomy, but I do know English wouldn't suffice) As so often with language, French beautifully fills the bill ____________________
"Home at Last" If the rowboat is because the owner just arrived home for work, do you think his wife reminds him not to to get any water on the living room carpet? ____________________

Okay. I can't resist. Do you think someone threw the duck a lifesaver because he can't swim? The building in the center reminds me of a poem I remember from when I was a little girl. It goes: Amsterdam, that great big town Is built on piles, they say. And if that town should tumble down Who'd pay for it, I pray? To me, the scene on the far right is one of the loveliest I have ever seen anywhere ___________________
