COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS X X THE TOWN OF OIA, SANTORINI, GREECE I I
I thought this was fun because (at the left), on that little island, is someone's home, and it was hard to imagine how anyone could enjoy living that way; part paradise, and part anguished loneliness. But maybe they have homes in odd places all over the world, and even forget to come to this one sometimes. . Imagine the lives of the caretakers. I hope they can check on things just every now and then, instead of having to live in isolation. I wonder whether there are fish in the caldera. I didn't see any being sold on stands the way they are near Boston. ____________________

RESTAURANT ENTRANCE INSIDE THE RESTAURANT To us it would be late at night in these pictures of this charming restaurant. The clock probably said about 2:00 AM. But this is siesta territory, and afternoon naps are long. One sleeps for a few hours at night and wakes with the dawn to see the sunrise over the blue water. Later the heat comes, and bed is cool and sweet. When the heat has settled, it is close to dinner time, which is usually about ten PM, and darkness begins to fall. ___________________

VIEW FROM SOUTH WIND CHIMNEY AND STEPS CHRISTENING FONT ANOTHER VIEW There was a Christening during our short week in Oia, but the Christening Font had last been used at a different church. So it was being carried to the baby's family church for the occasion. We "tourists" gathered outside the church to be sure we didn't miss anything. ______________________
THE ORIGINAL PHOTO and THE WATERCOLOR
I wasn't successful in trying to reproduce this image and tried to find something in it to salvage so I cropped it and tore the edges to something I thought I would like, but still no luck. I finally just went ape and painted a fake oriental-type character on it. I don't think it would look too bad framed imaginatively. At least the materials are top quality. Oh well.
